Daysland veteran receives 60-year Legion Service pin
George Schnyder received his 60-year service pin from Daysland Legion, presented by fellow Legion member Gordon Pennycook on Monday, Nov. 7 in Viking.
“It’s a little late,” says Pennycook, who says Schnyder has actually been a member now for 64 years.
Pennycook made the presentation at Viking Extendicare, where Schnyder currently lives with his brother.
Schnyder and Pennycook showed other residents and staff a photo from his service in Germany after WWII.
He was assigned to an airfield, and he and another soldier were billetted with a German family.
Below is the photo, which is also on George’s lap in a frame. It portrays Geo and one of the billet family’s girls, who followed he and his friend everywhere.
Staff at the Extendicare came up with an idea to put the picture on social media to see if they could make contact with her or her family.
