Killam Cyclones host weekend swim meet; over 170 swimmers attend
The Killam Cyclones Summer Swim Team hosted their home swim meet this past weekend at the Flagstaff Regional Aquatic Centre in Killam. Teams from Red Deer, Lacombe, Ponoka, Hanna, Oyen, Innisfail, Forestburg, and Castor attended, bringing just over 170 swimmers.
The Killam Cyclones, under the leadership of President Shannon Mochid, held a successful meet and heard many positive comments about the pool and the facility.
The parents of the Killam swimmers were kept busy all weekend working various jobs, including working at a raffle table, timing, working the computer system, and feeding all the officials.
Swimmers race in up to four different individual swims and then are allowed to be in two relay swims.
Points are awarded for swimmers finishing in first through sixth place in their swims, and at the end of the meet, swimmers with the most points accumulated in their age category, earn medals.
At this meet, several Killam swimmers earned the aggregate medals. In the 18 and over girls category, Jo-Anne Yuzik earned a gold medal while her sister, Denita Yuzik, won a silver medal.
Coaches Christine Kinzer, Cassidy Pfeffer, and Jo-anne Yuzik were proud of their swimmers as many from the Killam club swam personal bests.
Coaches are hoping the success continues for the Regional Meet next weekend and that they will be sending many swimmers to the provincial swim meet on Aug. 18 to 20.
