At the start of their biology class, three Daysland students, Bria Kroetch, Alarie Guhle, and Brooke Hochhausen accepted a challenge from their teacher, Mrs. Davidson, to come up with a presentation for the Battle River Watershed Alliance’s (BRWA) Caring for our Watershed contest.

The girls said they got together and started just spitting out ideas to each other. “At first we considered a sticker for toothbrushes that said ‘Remember to turn off the tap when you’re brushing your teeth,’ but we decided that was too simple.”

The idea they did all agree on was a cup that had markers on it for users to fill it up with only as much water as they needed at that moment. “My brothers do that all the time,” said one of the students, “they fill up the whole cup, drink some, then dump the rest out.”

Their main argument was that it was easy to expand, “It’s less about the cup itself, and more of an education campaign. It’s the message on the cup.”
