Daysland Northstars finish regular season with double wins; playoffs start this weekend

The Daysland Northstars wrapped up their regular season with a pair of weekend games at home. Daysland beat Big Valley on Friday, 5-2, and Saturday they ran the table on the Rocky Rams with a 9-2 win.

The two wins sealed first place in the North Central Hockey League South division for the Northstars, with Devon in second, Big Valley in third, and Edson in the fourth and final playoff spot for the division.

In the Northern division, Bonnyville finished first and will play fourth place Whitecourt. The Tofield Satellites finished second and will meet Morinville in the first round of playoffs.

The division playoffs are all best-of-five, with first playing fourth, and second and third meeting in the first round.

The two teams emerging from the second round in the division will battle to advance to the final series against the winner of the other division for overall championship.

Daysland will host Edson in the first round on Friday, Jan. 22 in Daysland, with a late 9 p.m. start.
