ICYMI: Kevin Sorenson retains Battle River-Crowfoot in Conservative sweep of Alberta
Kevin Sorenson was re-elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Battle River-Crowfoot in Monday’s federal election.
He won the riding by a sizeable margin, picking up 47,650 votes, good for 81 per cent.
This was just a small amount behind his personal best in 2011.
Sorenson has been the MP for the Crowfoot riding for the past 15 years and now will serve the new riding of Battle River-Crowfoot.
From 2000 to 2004, Sorenson was the MP for this area. In 2004 the boundaries were redrawn creating the Vegreville-Wainwright riding, of which Leon Benoit was the local representative. This year, the boundaries were again changed and Wainwright is now part of the newly formed Battle River-Crowfoot riding.
Born and raised in Killam, Kevin and his wife, Darlene, and their two children still reside on a farm within a few miles of the Sorenson family farm, where his mother and father currently reside, and where his grandfather began farming over a century ago. Prior to first being elected, Kevin farmed and owned and operated a small auction company.
Gary Kelly with the Green Party received 1,868 votes. Ryley’s Andy Kowalski, representing the Liberal Party, received 5,485 votes, while Katherine Swampy, the NDP candidate got 3,844 votes.
