Meet the Federal Candidates: Katherine Swampy, NDP
The Battle River-Crowfoot NDP executive has confirmed Katherine Swampy as the NDP candidate for this district.
Swampy, a resident of Maskwacis, is just shy of 30 years-old.
She has three diplomas: (First Nations Management, University Studies, and Fashion Design) as well as a BA in Economics with a Political Studies minor from the U of A, Augustana Faculty.
Swampy is a wife, and mother of five, and has full-time federal civil servant job.
She’s active in her community and area volunteering as a dance instructor, adult literacy coach, and is involved in many social movements.
Swampy has taken a leave of absence from her public servant position, so she can devote her full time to campaigning in this, the third largest federal electoral district in Alberta.
Bruce Hinkley, MLA for Wetaskiwin-Camrose, will be introducing Swampy at her launch of the Battle River-Crowfoot’s NDP campaign in Camrose on Friday, Sept. 11.
Swampy looks forward to meeting people in their local communities as she travels throughout the Battle River Crowfoot district.
Ellen Parker has agreed to be Swampy’s campaign manager. Parker was the NDP candidate for Crowfoot, in the 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2011 elections, garnering 9.15 per cent of the vote in the 2011 race.
“I’m happy to pass on the ‘candidate torch’ to Katherine, who represents the stellar leadership of the next generation that will lead this country in the best interests of the public good.”
The Canadian federal election will be held on October 19, 2015.
