RCMP recovers property stolen from local robberies
On Friday January 30, 2015 at approximately 12:37 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP began to track a stolen vehicle entering into their jurisdiction.
Strathcona County RCMP, assisted by the Edmonton Police Service, converged to a property on Range Road 231 near Township Road 512 in Sherwood Park.
As officers arrived, a male was observed fleeing from the vehicle.
When attempting to locate the male, police determined that there were several stolen vehicles on the property.
The investigation led to a search warrant being executed on the property resulting in the seizure of: two Ford trucks, travel trailer, utility trailer, and numerous tools and construction items.
During the investigation, a second property (Range Road 203 near Township Road 502) in Beaver County, Tofield was identified.
A search warrante was executed on the property by the Tofield RCMP and Strathcona County RCMP, resulting in the seizure of: three snowmobiles, two utility trailers, three trucks, an ATV, a dump trailer ,and other miscellaneous items.
The approximate value of the recovered stolen property from both properties is $80,000.
As a result of the investigation and recovery, numerous theft files will be concluded by several police jurisdictions.
It has been determined that the property has been stolen from Alberta wide including; Camrose, Wainwright, Thorsby, Edmonton, Tofield, Vermilion, Stettler, Bashaw, Forestburg, Vegreville and Coronation.
Jason Peter Emter, age 40, of Tofield, and Cindy Mae McArthur, age 45, of Tofield, have been charged with:
-Eight counts of Possession of Stolen Property not exceeding $5,000;
-Seven counts of Possession of Stolen Property exceeding $5,000;
-Two counts of Tampering with a Vehicle Identification Number;
-Two counts of Fraudulent concealment.
Additional charges for Emter include:
-Four counts of Possession of Stolen Property exceeding $5,000;
-One count of Possession of an illegal substance.
Emter is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Park on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
McArthur is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Ashley Robert Sherwin, age 34 of Edmonton, has been charged with:
-One count of Possession of Stolen Property not exceeding $5,000;
-One count of Possession of Stolen Property exceeding $5,000;
-One count of Obstruction;
-Two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance.
Sherwin is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
RCMP continue their investigation to determine if further charges are warranted in this matter.
