Captured: power line stringers take bravery to new heights
On Sunday morning, wires were finally strung on the new towers for the Eastern Alberta Transmission lines. Three workers who arrived there via a helicopter hopped from tower to tower, being fed lines by the same chopper. Drivers on Highway 13 were able to watch the work being done, which was not for the faint of heart. These photos were captured west of Strome.
The 485 km overhead transmission line was developed for the purpose of interconnecting Newell HVDC static inverter plant near Brooks, Alberta with Heathfield static inverter plant near Gibbons, Alberta. The project includes 1,387 transmission towers across Alberta including Flagstaff County, and is expected to be completed by December, 2014 at a total cost of $1.8 billion.
