COPA Pilots treat youth to free plane rides
Local pilots hosted a COPA day for youth on Saturday, May 31 at the Flagstaff Regional Airport, taking more than 35 youth to the air.
Participants came from as far away as Edmonton to experience what for many was their first small craft airplane ride, and for some, their first plane ride ever.
Pilots took groups of two and three, depending on the airplane, for trips around the countryside, with Flagstaff youth often getting an opportunity to fly over their homes along the way.
The Iron Creek Flying Club, with help from the Sedgewick Ag. Society, and Flagstaff County, offer the flights through the Canadian Pilots and Owners Association (COPA), who sponsor the event across the nation.
The COPA For Kids aviation program provides – free of charge – a motivational aviation experience, initiating young people to the science of flight.
