Sedgewick to hold by-election for new Mayor, Councillor

The Town of Sedgewick is looking to fill some seats on council, with the recent resignation of Mayor Clem St. Pierre, and an open council position.

Nomination Day for the two spots will be June 10.

The Municipal Government Act requires towns to hold a separate election for their Chief Elected Official, or Mayor; which is different from villages, who may choose the Mayor from Council.

Both are allowed to modify this rule by bylaw.

In Sedgewick’s case, they do hold a separate election for Mayor, so must call a by-election in the case of resignation.

Candidates are not allowed to run for more than one office in the same municipality.
