The Town of Sedgewick held a by-election on Monday, Feb. 10 to fill a vacant Council position left by Pat Whitehead.

Sedgewick CAO Amanda Davis and Returning Officer says unofficial results show a total of 115 votes were cast, with candidate Cindy Rose winning the Council seat with 85 ballots.

Nominees for the spot included Aleska Johnson, Lindsey St. Laurent, and Rose.

The candidates all spoke at a candidates forum on Jan. 30, hosted by the Seniors Club, and introduced themselves to residents and other Council members present.

Cindy Rose stated that she and her husband are long-time residents of Sedgewick and have owned a business in town since 2006.

Rose says, “I am a member of our Legion branch and was Secretary and Treasurer for many years.

“I think we have a great little town and I look forward to working with our mayor and newly elected councillors to help our town continue to thrive and grow.

“I have the time to give to Council and feel I have a lot to contribute to our wonderful town.”

Candidate Lindsey St. Laurent had 20 votes, and candidate Aleska Johnson had 13 votes after Monday’s ballots had been counted.
