16th year for FIRST Auction and Supper a success
Flagstaff’s Initiative to Relationship or Spousal Trauma, or FIRST, returned to Killam on Saturday, Feb. 1, for their 16th annual supper and auction.
Almost 200 people were in attendance Saturday, and competition was heavy on many of the silent auction items, donated by businesses and individuals throughout the County.
Allen Dietz, Vice-Chair of the FIRST Board, acted as the master of ceremonies for the evening, and he started it all off by inviting Helen Samm to say grace before dinner.
Dietz reminded the crowd that all monies raised over the evening stays in Flagstaff, and Amisk, for FIRST operations.
“Funds raised from the dinner provide the funding for FIRST to continue to provide a valuable service to the Flagstaff Community,” he said.
“We greatly appreciate all the support we receive from all around the area.”
Dietz introduced the rest of the board, Chair Gunnar Albrecht and Secretary Sylvia Wold were unable to attend, he said, but introduced directors Brenda McDermott, Cheryl Holben, Brenda Robbins, and Blanche Nelson.
Dietz invited Leon Benoit, MP for Vegreville-Wainwright to say a few words.
Benoit said, “Congratulations to you all in the community, for a job well done,” remarking on the incredible list of donors and auction items.
Benoit also conveyed greetings from Killam native, Crowfoot MP Kevin Sorenson, who he said was attending a fundraiser in his own constituency on Saturday evening.
FIRST will use funds raised from the evening to contribute to school programs, and educational events, as well as the new OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program, which is being run in Daysland, Forestburg, Killam, Sedgewick, and Amisk schools.
