Battle River Baseball League finals in full swing
The first round of playoffs in the Battle River Baseball League got underway Thursday, July 4.
Every series had a few innings of overcast skies and all complained about the quantity of mosquitos that were in attendance.
The first place Rosalind As hosted the eighth place Amisk Astros. The As were up 15-1 after the second inning, which ended up as the final score.
The second place Heisler Cardinals hosted the seventh place Lougheed Wildcats. The Cards lead the series with a 4-0 win.
The third place Killam Braves hosted the sixth place Castor Raiders and won 3-0.
The fouth place Spring Lake Lakers hosted the fifth place Coronation Cardinals at the “Field of Dreams.”
The mosquitos were thick like smoke and every player in outfield could be caught doing the windmill to ward off those little pests.
The Lakers were down 3-0 in the bottom of the third with two out. They rallied to score six runs.
The Cardinals added three runs in the top of the fourth for a 6-6 ball game which went into an extra inning. The Cards were able to get a run home. The Lakers stranded a runner making the final 7-6.
Game two for all teams in the best-of-three round one will take place on Tuesday, July 9 with a start time of 7 p.m.
