Sgt. Lee Brachmann, NOC/ic of the Killam/Forestburg RCMP detachment says that due to a severe shortage of administrative staff, as he called it, the detachment is running reduced office hours for the time being.

With borrowed administrative staff from neighbouring detachments, he is hoping to offer at least two or three days each week at normal operations.

“Please continue to feel free to drop by,” he says. “If the door is locked, don’t assume we’re not here, just pick up the phone. “We are still an operational detachment.”

During the week of May 23 to 31, the detachment responded to 39 calls for service.

These included three false alarms, eight abandoned 911 calls, two uttering threats reports, one abandoned vehicle report, 4 motor vehicle collisions, and two theft of licence plates.

“It’s a good idea to memorize your licence plate,” says Brachmann. It can’t hurt to occasionally check and make sure that your plate is not only still on your vehicle, but that it is still your plate on the vehicle.

On May 27, members responded to a report of a Break and Enter to an unoccupied residence near Galahad. All windows on one level of the house had been broken. The break in is currently under investigation.
