Northstars and Satellites prepare for intergalactic showdown

The Daysland North-stars advanced to the Battle River Hockey finals with a 6-3 win over the Hardisty Stampeders in game five of the best-of-seven semi-finals on Wednesday, Mar. 6 in Daysland. The Northstars won the series 4-1.

A berth in the BRHL finals comes with an automatic spot in the senior AA men’s provincials.

The Northstars will be looking to defend their 2012 BRHL championship title and their 19th Presidents Cup. They will also go for their second consecutive provincial title.

Game five was an exciting match up and both teams played with intensity and passion; an entertaining match up for large crowd in attendance.

Daysland was first on the scoreboard with an ugly goal by Ryan Yuha, who had the open net early into the game.

Hardisty tied it up on the power-play when Jeffery Smitten took the feed from Shayne Andres and Brad MacNab and buried it at the midway point of the first period.
Colin Zimmer tied it up for the Northstars on a pass from the Trautman duo of Justin and Brad on the power-play.
With a minute left in the first, the Trautman duo struck again, this time with Justin scoring on a feed from Brad.
The period ended 3-1 for the home team as they headed to the dressing rooms.
The Stampeders came out strong in the second and netted a power-play goal early on a shot by Andres on a feed from Cam Dion and Brad MacNab.
