Wheat Kings win intense game 7 against Bandits in sold-out arena at home

After a devastating 6-0 loss in Lloydminster on Sunday, Feb. 24, the Killam Junior B Wheat Kings had one final shot to move forward into the semi-finals on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at home.

Both teams played like they had everything to lose. Killam was first on the scoreboard late in the first with a goal from Jordan Sand, assisted by Mike McTavish and Dylan Herder on a power-play goal to close the first ahead by one.

The Wheaties solidified their lead in the second with a late period goal from McTavish, assisted by Sand and Jason Yuha.

Wheaties goaltender Damian MacKinnon appeared to have grown a second pair of arms, Wednesday, as he foiled the Bandits shot after shot as they tried to ram the puck past him in the third period, with the Bandits finally scoring at the 16 minute point, drawing within one goal of the tie.

After pulling their goalie with just a minute left in the game, the Bandits saw their chances go out the window when Myles Ellert scored on their empty net, bringing the final score to 3-1 for the Wheat Kings.

The Wheat Kings will advance to semi-final play against the Wainwright Bisons starting with back-to-back games in Wainwright, on Saturday, Mar. 2 and Sunday, Mar. 3 in Wainwright, returning home for games in Killam Wednesday, Mar. 6 and Friday, Mar. 8.
