Daysland man honoured to receive Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal
Eugene Waldorf, of Daysland, was honoured during a ceremony late November where he received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Honourable Col. (Ret’d) Donald S. Ethell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and Premier Alison Redford, in Red Deer.
In a small ceremony with 24 other recipients, Waldorf said the intimate gathering gave him and wife Martha the opportunity to speak to both Ethell and Redford during the evening.
“They were both very social, very approachable,” he says.
Only 633 Albertans were nominated by the Premier’s office, and Redford herself only attended three ceremonies, “I was honoured to be at one of those three,” says Waldorf.
Doug Griffiths, MLA for Battle River Wainwright and Minister of Municipal Affairs nominated Waldorf, “Gene has done so much for his community, for seniors, and he has been wonderfully relentless in his efforts, which is always the key to success.”
