Trickster brings global awareness to Central High Sedgewick Public School
Last week, with a final performance on Nov. 23, Central High Sedgewick Public School hosted a physical theatre group known as Trickster Theatre to work and perform with the students to bring awareness to current global issues.
Trickster is a performance theatre company that has been helping schools produce original performances highlighting the work and skills of students, while being led and directed by the Trickster Theatre team.
Hundreds of schools across Alberta have participated in this unique “Artists-in-Schools-Residency” program and all have come up with different themes to perform in front of parents and students.
CHSPS decided to use the theme of global issues, which ranged from health care to education.
For a whole week, one class from each grade came up with an act relating to current international affairs.
Throughout the five days, classes worked with the Trickster team to create well rehearsed performances that would eventually be performed on Friday in front of the rest of the school, and invited guests.
“The goal of this is so that kids learn a little about theatre and also feel compelled to make a difference,” says Trickster founder, David Chantler.
