Hardisty Ag Society sponsors self-esteem classes for teens
“Outstanding, inspiring, touching.”
That’s what Amanda Welliver had to say about the recent self-esteem workshop she taught in Hardisty, for 19 enthusiastic kids aged 10 to 16, called, “I am beautiful because…”
“Nikki Brausen really put all the steps together,” Welliver said, “she got all the sponsors, and the money.”
Brausen convinced the Hardisty Ag Society to sponsor the workshop after talking to Welliver one day about getting some self-esteem tips for her own teen.
“It’s too bad I couldn’t bring one of my programs to Hardisty,” mused Welliver, which she says galvanized Brausen into action.
“She deserves some time in the spotlight, too,” says Welliver.
Welliver was raised in Hardisty, and attended Kindergarten through Grade 2 there, before moving out of the area.
“Nikki and I were friends when I lived in Hardisty,” Welliver said, “we lost touch until about 10 years ago, and since then we’ve picked up our old friendship.”
That friendship led to Welliver coming to Hardisty during a snowstorm Nov. 7 to start her workshop for Hardisty and area kids.
“I travel all across the country, but this time I was coming home, to my home town.
