Alberta looking to extend terms for municipal officials

Starting with the October 2013 general election, the terms of elected officials will be extended to four years.

Municipal Affairs Minister Doug Griffiths confirmed the government’s intention to amend the term extension.

Municipal politicians are currently elected to serve for a three-year period.

The last election was October of 2010 and the next election is set for October, 2013. It is expected that the new term will come into law well before the 2013 election.
