Sabres and Northstars meet in BRHL home opener
The Daysland North-stars hosted the Sedgewick Sabres on Saturday, Nov. 3 in their home opener in the Battle River Hockey League 2012-13 season.
A huge crowd was in attendance to see these long-time rivals battle it out on the ice.
The game was physical as expected, with 26 infractions being handed out, keeping officials busy stopping skirmishes from escalating.
Both teams were successful in killing off the penalties: the Northstars went 0-15, and the Sabres were 0-11.
Goaltending was the difference with Northstars rookie Scott Garnett making his debut in net facing 24 shots, and veteran Jordy Cox in net for the visiting Sabres; he faced 34 shots and came up with some big stops to keep his team in it when they were down two players in the last minutes of the game.
From the opening face off, it was apparent this was going to be a physical game.?These teams are extremely competitive and both are very capable of delivering and taking the body hits.
In other BRHL Action, the Hardisty Stampeders trampled the Macklin Mohawks Saturday, Nov. 3 by a score of 17-5.
