Bull Riding School in Forestburg
Gary Leffew from Santa Maria, California came to the Flagstaff Riding Arena in Forestburg to host a bull riding school for the weekend of Nov. 2 – 4.
There were 16 young men in attendance ranging from 10-years-old to 18-years-old.
Day one began with Leffew explaining his holistic approach to bull riding. “There is a portion that’s physical but the bigger part is your mental approach,” opened Leffew.
“You should watch videos of the great ones and copy them.”
He showed the students what the perfect position on a bull looked like, then checked every student’s equipment making suggestions on what they might require.
Day one was primarily to see where each student was at; from there, he could start to help them out.
Day two was full of drills. Leffew worked with the students on the stationary barrels and showed them the proper way to hold on.
