Train derailments in Hardisty and Forestburg

Two Flagstaff municipalities had incidents of train derailments, on Friday, July 20 in Hardisty, to Monday, July 23, in Forestburg.

At 3:55 a.m. on Friday, July 20, an eastbound CP train pulling into the West end of the Hardisty yard had four of its cars derail from the track.
Accordingly to Kevin Hyrsak of CP Media Relations, the train was what is referred to as a manifest train, and was 61 cars long, about 400 feet in total, with 58 of those cars being empty.
Two of the four left the tracks completely, and two were only half off the track.
One of the derailed cars made contact with a car on an adjacent track, derailing it as well.

The train was loaded up with full grain cars and heading west at a slow rate of speed, through Forestburg, when two of the cars rolled over. More cars may have derailed, but stayed upright.
An investigator has been called and will be on scene later to determine the cause of the derailment.
The grain was being recovered and trucked back to storage Monday.
