Hospital Shoots for a Million
Richard Conrad, of the Killam Hospital Foundation, says he’s trying to raise a million dollars, to furnish the new Assisted Living 60 bed facility planned for Killam.
According to Conrad, the building won’t come furnished, and the foundation will have to try to come up with the funds they need, “Our purpose is to raise money now to get a nice chair for Grandma or Grandpa so they have a comfortable place to sit,” he says, adding, “which they deserve.”
Geri Clark, Executive Director of Killam Health Care says, “It isn’t as simple as just building a building.”
To that end, the hospital foundation is holding a Spring Extravaganza fund-raiser that will kick off an entire weekend of fun in Killam, on June 14.
The event includes a silent auction and entertainment provided by the Smith Sisters.
The Smith Sisters are Micki-Lee and Billie-Jo, 14 and 16-years-old respectively. The girls hail from the Edmonton area, and play a full repertoire of musical genres, including classical, bluegrass, inspirational, country, folk, fiddle, and more. Conrad has had the pleasure of hearing them perform, and says, “They’re just delightful.”
Conrad was upset by recent rumours that the evening might be cancelled, saying tickets are at about 70 per cent sold.
Clark is hoping that she can unveil what the project will look like at the Extravaganza, with a model and architects views of the project at its current stage.
