On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 29, Alberta’s Minister of Education Thomas Lukaszuk invited parents and school councils to dial in to a conference call to discuss the future education act in Alberta.
Over 370 school councils did just that, along with parents and other interested listeners.
Lukaszuk introduced himself to those on the line as the new Education Minister, saying, “I’m not new to being elected, not new to being a parent, and I’m not new to education; it’s something near and dear to my heart.
“The reason we are holding this call is to start a new relationship and dialogue, and solicit your input on a number of topics.”
Lukaszuk is working on reviewing the education act, noting that Alberta’s education system is still being governed by the School Act, enacted in 1988.
