Haresh Narine of Daysland passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the age of 77. Haresh was born in Skeldon, Guyana, on February 23, 1937, the second eldest of nine children in his family.

Haresh first came to Canada in 1954 to attend Mount Allison University, in New Brunswick, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He returned to Guyana and worked for the government. He married Amina, his beloved wife of 45 years, in 1962. They moved to Alberta in 1965.

Haresh was awarded a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 1966. He began teaching that same year in Daysland, from where he began a long and distinguished career in public education.

He earned a Master of Education Administration degree from the U of A in 1971. He became the vice-principal, then principal of Daysland School. He later became the deputy superintendent of Flagstaff County and retired as superintendent in 1995.

Haresh enjoyed traveling. He took advantage of his retirement to visit many places, including Southeast Asia, India, North Africa, Europe, Cuba, and Hawaii. He and Amina especially enjoyed spending time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, a practice he continued even after her passing.

Haresh was a voracious reader and enjoyed working on his computer. He loved maintaining his house in Daysland and, after Amina passed, caring for the garden that she had spent so many hours tending. He remained active until weakened by the illness that took his life.

Haresh was predeceased by Amina in 2008. He leaves behind four loving children, Nandini, Nandia, Shari and Shaun; son-in-law Robert; and four grandchildren: Ethan and Jonathan (and their father Eric) and James and Maria.

A Family Funeral Service was held at the Burgar Memorial Chapel in Camrose. Haresh’s life will be celebrated in a memorial service at Daysland, Alberta during the summer of 2015.
