Flagstaff residents nominated for Minister’s Seniors Service Awards

Ernestine Ferris of Daysland was one of two Flagstaff residents, the other Marjorie Lunty of Forestburg, who were nominated for the 2017 Minister’s Senior Service Individual Awards. Ferris, above right, received her nomination recognition during a ceremony in Edmonton from Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing, on Aug. 14.

The Minister’s Seniors Service Awards recognize Albertans who improve the lives of seniors through their volunteer service.

This year, 48 individuals and 12 organizations are nominated for awards, including two Flagstaff residents and the Big Knife Villa, in Forestburg.

Ernestine Ferris, from Daysland, and Marjorie Lunty, from Forestburg, each received nominations from individuals or groups in their community.

Every person who received a nomination was invited to attend one of six community events across the province to receive recognition for their nominations from Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing.

Ferris was nominated under the individual award category, by Betty Koehli, who in her entry, listed all the things she has known Ferris to be involved in within Daysland.

These included: 18 years on Council; work on the Hospital Foundation; the Hospital Auxiliary; the Handi Van Society; the Providence Place Board; her volunteer work at the Arena; her membership in the Catholic Women’s League; service on the Council on Aging; and her work at the Sunbeam Drop-In Centre.

She attended the Edmonton ceremony on Aug. 14, receiving her nomination from Sigurdson.
