Drag races in Forestburg bring out the need for speed

The revving of engines, the smell of burnt rubber, and the joy of opening the throttle up for an eighth-mile on the green light, leaving your competition in the dust.




For every would-be racer, and for those serious enough about racing to trailer their cars to the heats, the Forestburg Airport was the place to be this weekend.

The Camrose Cruisers brought the event out, with help from local businessman Greg Lemay.

He says the Forestburg Power Sports Association will soon approach the village about taking over the airport now that it is to be decommissioned, and turning it into a drag racing fixture in the province.

“We would have to pave the track to bring out the fast cars,” says Lemay.

He says that the group is hoping to turn it into a regional facility, with drag races and mud bogs for ATVs.
