Record numbers for COPA for Kids event

Practically for the first time in April, the sun came out on Saturday, April 27 as the Iron Creek Flying Club offered free airplane rides for kids.

Sixty-one kids took pilots up on the offer, with youth coming from Kitscoty, Edgerton, Hughenden, Camrose, Wetaskiwin, St. Brides, Ryley, Holden, Irma, Vegreville, Bashaw, and the Flagstaff region, with an unheard of 20 coming out as walk-ins.

Ten club pilots donated their time, and their airplanes, to take their young visitors on a ride that took them east past Hardisty, then north and west back to the Flagstaff Regional Airport.

Every youth receives a log book, to record all future flights in.

The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) sponsors the event, and the Iron Creek Flying Club is one of few area clubs who participate in the event, pulling people from all around Central Alberta.
