19th annual FIRST fundraiser nets second-best ever results

The 19th Annual Supper and Auction to benefit Flagstaff’s Initiative to Relationship and Spousal Trauma, (F.I.R.S.T.) was held in Galahad on Saturday evening.

One hundred and fifty sat down to a delicious beef dinner catered by Darcy Jahns.

Jahns pointed out that he buys as much as he can locally which benefits locally.

Allen Dietz was master of ceremonies for the evening. Dietz is Vice-chairperson of the FIRST Board.

Chairperson is Gunnar Albrecht. Sylvia Wold and Cheryl Holben are other board members who were present.

Silent and live auction items were a varied lot.

There was a stuffed moose in Red Serge along with tickets to the Red Serge Ball, a one-day rental of a post pounder, wine and more wine, tickets to Edmonton Oil Kings hockey games, Killam swim passes, gift certificates, gift baskets, fried chicken, cake, and a table top barbecue, just to name a few.

There were 80 items donated to the silent auction in all, which had the bidding closing off at various times throughout the evening.

It is a method that keeps bidders on the alert to watch that their bid is the winning one.

Things got quite lively for the live auction.

The auction was handled by Dale Jones and Darrin Holben. There were 15 items auctioned off.

Jones and Holben brought their special brand of humour to the event starting with the very first item, an annual membership to the Strength and Motivation Gym in Killam, leaving the audience in stitches.
