The driver and passenger of a silver SUV sustained injuries in a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 36 last Monday, Sept. 19, around 6:30 a.m. RCMP discovered the SUV involved in the accident had been stolen out of Drayton Valley

First responders were called to the scene of a collision on Highway 36 near Township Road 422, located just north of the Highway 53/608 turn, on Monday, Sept. 19 at 6:36 a.m.

On arrival, emergency personnel found a silver Toyota Matrix that had entered the west ditch, struck an approach, and rolled end over end.

According to Flagstaff County Emergency Services Coordinator Kim Cannady, “Neither of the two occupants were wearing seatbelts, and both people in the vehicle were injured.”

Traffic along Highway 36 was stopped briefly during the incident.

EMS was treating a female passenger when RCMP arrived, but the male driver of the SUV fled the scene, stealing a truck owned by Carillion Canada after the driver of that vehicle stopped to assist the motor vehicle collision.

Killam RCMP learned that the Toyota had been stolen out of Drayton Valley, and it also had a stolen licence plate.

The female passenger was taken to Killam Health Care Centre where she was treated and then released into the custody of Killam RCMP.
