The Killam Legion Branch #65 members recently decided it was time to reshingle the roof.

Because of a long history of supporting one another’s projects, the Legion decided they would go to their long-time tenants, the Killam Lions Club, for help.

That was about six weeks ago, according to Russell Moore. “We approached the Lions club for assistance, thinking perhaps some labour and a financial contribution.”

Moore says he was surprised by an immediate agreement to help out with the labour, and shocked when the Lions Club said they would also pick up 100 per cent of the material costs.

On the day of replacement, which was April 16, around 15 Lions members and eight or nine Legion members tackled the job.

It helped to have some borrowed equipment, like lifts and safety cages from local businesses, Battle River Implements, CPS, and Joe Knievel Construction, as well as support from the Town of Killam.

The workers ran into a few minor setbacks, but were completely finished by 5 p.m.

Legion members provided food for the crew throughout the day, and ended the work bee with a barbecue dinner.

“We are extremely grateful to the Lions for their assistance. It is a partnership that we hope never ends.”
