Valley Ski Hill receives funding for slope stabilization

Alliance-Valley-Ski-Hill
The Valley Ski Hill has been having issues with stability of the hill since 1997, and representatives recently met with some Councillors from Flagstaff County and the County of Paintearth.

The results of the meeting were brought before County Council at their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 13.

The engineered report of the site contained an estimated cost of $580,000 for the proper stabilization of the hill.

At their April 5 meeting, County of Paintearth Council agreed to provide $300,000 to the cause over two years, in payments of $150,000 each year.

“I guess my question is will this fix the problem?” asked Councillor James Brodie.

Reeve Gerald Kuefler noted that the information given to Council is a concept plan, and once they have approval, more engineering work will need to be done.

The hill has an underlying layer of water, he said, that needs to be drained in order to stabilize the slope.
