David Myles rounds out DaysArts 2015-16 season

The DaysArts Concert Series finished off their season on Thursday night with a performance by David Myles.

Myles’ performance featured a three-piece band, with Alan Jeffries joining him on guitar, and Kyle Cunjak playing the upright bass. The evening was a mix of music and humour, and covered a wide array of genres.

Myles is the co-writer of JUNO winning rap song “Inner Ninja” by Classified, though his own music is markedly different from hip hop.

“Don’t worry, you’re not going to hear much rap tonight,” he said at the beginning of the night.

Myles introduced his band, who are all from the east coast.

“It has been a great year of travelling around Alberta. This is our third tour,” said Myles.

He added that most of their concerts are in small towns like Daysland, and recently they have branched out into touring in the United States as well. Myles introduced many of his songs with the stories behind them, including one that he wrote for his wife, Nina, while they were still dating.

He said that when he first played it for her, she had no reaction whatsoever, but two years later, she decided to propose to him.

“She’s a modern lady,” he said. “I said no. I told her to write me a song.”
