Flagstaff Initiative for Relationship and Spousal Trauma (FIRST) hosted a “Sorting through Hoarding” seminar for professionals on Tuesday, March 1 in Killam.

Lynne Jenkinson, Executive Director of FFCS in Killam, and Administrator of FIRST said she was thrilled with the turnout, 84 people attended the afternoon seminar.

Jenkinson said the event was triggered by requests from two towns in Flagstaff who approached her asking her if something could be done about hoarding in our communities.

The workshop was presented by Stacy Walker, Certified Professional Organizer, and Terri Bailey, M.A. who is a Counsellor.

Hoarding involves a person who has problems with over-acquiring, and/or difficulty discarding items; so much so that they may be unable to use certain spaces in their homes, garages, and yards for their intended purpose.

For some, there may be an additional issue of distress or impairment that comes out of fear of discovery, and social isolation.
