Coach Bob Charchun said, “Lloyd came with a depleted lineup and we played solid throughout the game. The line of Lang-Brodie-Lynes had a strong night leading the offense. It was nice to have all four lines going.”

The Wheaties travelled to Saddle Lake on Saturday, Feb. 6 for the last game of the regular season and came away with an 8-1 win to secure a second place finish in the overall standings, and secure home-ice-advantage in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Scoring for the Wheat Kings was; Ashton Cookson, Brett Yuha (3) Clay Lang (2), Dean Brodie, and Kyle Sanders. Tanner Watkins picked up his ninth win of the season in goal.

“We had a sleepy start in Saddle Lake but figured things out quickly.

“Again, the guys competed hard. Tanner Watkins had a solid weekend giving Grassl some much-needed rest.

“Clay Lang had an eight-point weekend, finishing tied at the top of the scoring race. Clay had a tremendous season. He scored his 50th goal vs Saddle.

“It looks like we will meet Frog Lake in the first round.

“We will have to be prepared for their strong offense and puck skill. Closing off lanes and playing the body will be critical. Our guys will be ready. We are entering the best part of the hockey season; an exciting time,” says Charchun.

The Wheat Kings host Frog Lake on Friday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m., with game two taking place in Killam on Saturday, Feb. 13 with an 8 p.m. start.
