The Town of Hardisty held a by-election on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to fill a seat on Council left by the resignation of Shawn Gaetzman.

With just 101 voters turning out, the results were close between two of the three nominees.

Penny Wurz received 49 votes, and is Hardisty’s newest councillor. In close second was Doug Irving, with 40 votes, with the remainder going to Roger Gaetzman, at 11.

One spoiled ballot was received.

Wurz was sworn in at the regular meeting of Council on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Gaetzman’s committee work was divided among the remaining councillors before the election, and Wurz will have the option of shadowing any Council member in any committee, or may be named alternate.
