Heisler Cardinals win fourth straight BRBL title

After a three week delay, the final series of the BRBL resumed on Tuesday, Aug. 11 in Spring Lake between the Lakers and the Heisler Cardinals.

The Cardinals were up 1-0 in the best-of-three and looking to clinch their fourth straight title at the field of dreams, but the Lakers were looking to keep the series alive and force game three.

The Cardinals had lefty Nolan Miller on the mound and Graham Zimmer got the nod for the Lakers.

The game was scoreless after three. At the top of the fourth, the Cardinals scored the first run.

The Lakers had four runs cross the plate to make it a 4-1 game going into the fifth.

Heisler added a pair of runs in their half of the inning and the Lakers added a run in the bottom, to make it a 5-3 game for Spring Lake.

The Cards scored a pair in the top of six to make it a 5-5 game. The Lakers shut down the Cardinal bats in the top of seven.

A combination of a couple of hits and an error loaded the bases with one out when the batter was hit, to walk the winning run and make it a 6-5 final for the Lakers.

Game three took place in Heisler on Thursday Aug. 13. The fans came out in droves; the diamond was surrounded and a tailgate party was the pre-game attraction.

Mother Nature provided another over-30 degree evening for the final game.

Cory Martz was on the mound for Heisler, and Lance Zimmer for Spring Lake.
