RCMP investigates impaired driving and other offences

The Killam/Forestburg RCMP Detachment initiated a total of 36 files from the week starting Oct. 24 – 31.

During that time period, they responded to four false alarms, three instances of assistance to the public, four complaints of suspicious persons, vehicles, or property, one assault complaint, two instances where they provided assistance to other policy departments or agencies, federal or provincial, one complaint under the controlled drugs and substances act, one complaint of criminal harassment, three complaints of disturbances, one complaint of fraud, two instances of impaired driving, seven motor vehicle collisions, two provincial statutes, and one theft under $5,000 complaint.Parade-RCMP-Aug-13-13

Police also received a number of miscellaneous calls for service, most of which can’t be reported due to ongoing investigation or sensitivity to the persons involved.

On Oct. 24, RCMP responded to a complaint of an attempted fraud.

According to the person making the complaint, a male caller reported himself to be from the Publisher’s Clearing House, saying he had a large sum of money for them. That’s when the person receiving the call noted that it was from Jamaica. The person was not defrauded, and the information was forwarded to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Police seized a small amount of marihauana from an intoxicated person wandering the streets of Hardisty in the early morning hours of Oct. 26.

 

A member noted the person and engaged him in conversation. During the conversation, theperson pulled a baggie from his pockets that the officer believed to bemarijauna.

He was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance and released.

During the late evening hours of Oct. 30, a member of the Killam/ Forestburg Detachment was travelling north on Highway 36 north of Killam.

Police noticed a vehicle driving in an erratic way, and noticed that it had a flat rear tire.
The vehicle pulled to the side of the road, and subsequent investigation by the officer resulted in the 29-year-old female driver being charged with Impaired Driving and related charges.

An infant was also found to be in the vehicle at the time of this occurrence.
