The population of Lougheed more than tripled on the weekend as guests from all around the area stopped in to attend the 90th anniversary of the Lougheed Fair.

The day started early for volunteers, as breakfast was hosted on the Museum grounds starting at 7 a.m. where volunteers served pancakes, eggs and sausage to visitors in a never-ending queue until 10 a.m.

Many visitors took the opportunity before the parade to wander through the Lougheed Museum grounds, where a number of shops have been moved in and reassembled, along with the Anglican Church and School, complete with historical displays, and a varied display of machinery.

The Museum has been compared to Calgary’s Heritage Park or Fort Edmonton on a smaller scale, with a look into authentic homestead living with donated artifacts and display items, painstakingly catalogued and arranged by volunteers.

The parade started at 10 a.m. back on Main Street, and featured local RCMP, floats from businesses, organizations and neighbouring towns, horses, antique vehicles, and farm machinery, ending with the fire department’s vehicles.

Young parade viewers, who came prepared with bags, ended up with an impressive bounty of candy thrown from passing vehicles.
