Killam RCMP deal with a number of Break-ins in Hardisty and Forestburg

breakins

The Killam/Forest-burg RCMP Detachment members have been busy over the last week with a number of break ins reported in Hardisty and again in Forestburg.

On July 19, the RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter at a Hardisty business. Entrance to the building was gained through the front door, with damage done to the door jamb, but the business owners were unable to determine if anything was missing.

The same day, police received a complaint of a break and enter at the Fire Hall in Hardisty, where the front door appeared to have been pried open. Fortunately for the town, nothing appeared to have been stolen or damaged at the fire hall.

Next, police were called to the Hardisty Legion. A resident called to report that the building’s back door had been broken open, and cupboards rummaged through. RCMP attended the scene and seized items for processing.

A liquor bottle found on the scene appeared to have been opened, with half the contents missing. One war picture was stolen from the hall.

The same evening as the break ins, police received a complaint of suspicious people trespassing on the CP Rail siding in Hardisty. Members patrolled the area by vehicle and on foot, but were unable to locate the suspect or suspects.

A second suspicious persons call was made a few hours later at this location, where police again attended and found no one in the area.
Anyone with information into these or other crimes is encouraged to contact the Killam/ Forestburg RCMP detachment by phoning 780-385-3509, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

In the early morning of Saturday, July 20, detachment members entered into an impaired driving investigation on Highway 13, east of Killam.
As a result, one male has been charged with Impaired Driving. This matter is currently before the courts; the accused will appear in Killam Provincial Court on Aug. 20.

Also on Saturday, police received a complaint of a break and enter at the Elks Hall in Hardisty, where it was believed that suspects gained entry via a fire escape door. Cash from the bingo float and canteen was stolen. Police seized items from the location for forensic examination, and continue to investigate this incident.
