On Apr. 27, the Killam/Forestburg RCMP Detachment was asked to investigate a 911 Emergency call. During the call, nothing was said, and police now have the responsibility to ensure the person who called is okay.

Sgt. Lee Brachmann, NCO/ic says that it is still under investigation, and will tie up an officer for some time. “We have no reason at this time to think anything is amiss,” he says, “but we can’t assume that.

“That’s why we would rather have people stay on the line, even if they’re embarrassed to have called us accidentally,” Brachmann says, “just to tell us they are okay.

The detachment received five other abandoned 911 calls requiring investigation during the week, with the detachment responding to 33 calls in all.

In the early morning hours of Apr. 28, a traffic stop in Sedgewick resulted in one male being arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Charges are pending, and the suspect will appear in Provincial Court.
