Daysland drama students break seven year lapse with Aladdin

Daysland students performed the musical Aladdin at the Palace Theatre on Saturday, Apr. 13.

Director and Assistant Principal Patrick Whittleton opened the evening with a short history of 15 years of Daysland School musicals, starting in 1992 with My Fair Lady.

“We had a shoestring budget,” Whittleton said, “our props were the grad decorations.”

Started in the school, the productions eventually moved over to the theatre, where the first stage performance was Fiddler on the Roof.

“This is a magical place,” Whittleton said of the theatre. “Magic happens here.”

Whittleton thanked DaysArts volunteers for maintaining such a great facility.

“It’s been seven years since the last musical, a performance of Beauty and the Beast,” said Whittleton, and he is delighted that they’re back.
