Wheat Kings squeak out win over Lloydminster

The Killam Jr. B Wheat Kings travelled to Vegreville on Friday for a re-match of last weekend’s game.

The Rangers were looking to even the score, and although the Wheaties played well, they couldn’t get any breaks and fell by a score of 5-2.

The Wheat Kings hosted the Lloydminster Bandits on Saturday, Oct.6 at the Killam Agriplex.

Fans were taken on a roller coaster ride throughout the game.

Despite the Wheat Kings being outshot by the Bandits 33-26, they managed to outscore the visitors in dramatic fashion with 28 seconds remaining in the game, and won with a final score of 7-6.

The Bandits were first on the scoreboard early in the game.

Just two minutes later, Jared Heisler set up Mike McTavish, who scored short-handed to tie the score.

At the halfway mark in the period, Austin Wilson scored the go-ahead goal from James Newby and Justin Ness.

Killam added three more goals in the second period on their first three shots on the Lloydminster goal.
Wheaties second period scorers were Tanner Sather, Wilson, and Kyle Sanders on the power-play. Getting the assists were: Jordan Sand, Jason Yuha, Newby, Richard Lansing, Sather, and Kyle Wandler.
