Wild Rose Co-op takes quick action on recalled meat

According to General Manager Carol Rollheiser, Wild Rose Co-op stores took immediate action when they received notification of a number of recalls of XL Foods labelled and unlabelled ground beef and ground beef products.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued an initial recall Sept. 16 covering ground beef products under brand names such as Calahoo Meats, Kirkland Signature, Safeway, and Walmart stores, then expanded Health Hazard Alerts on Sept. 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 27, and another Sept. 28 which included expanded lists of labelled and unlabelled ground beef products, including Co-op stores.

Rollheiser wants to assure the public that all Wild Rose Co-op Food stores immediately pulled the product from their shelves when the recall was first initiated, “and that includes any in-store sausages or products made from ground beef,” she adds.

Rollheiser says that when food advisories are issued they are taken very seriously.

She adds that XL Foods initiated a voluntary recall in this instance.
