Severe weather plagues Flagstaff

Large hail and lots of heavy rain fell on the east end of Flagstaff County on Saturday, July 28.

The storm cut a swath from Castor to east of Galahad, dropping up to 2.5 inches of rain in less than an hour.
The hail wiped out some crops along Highway 36 and east.
On the evening of Monday, July 30, with tornado watches issued for our region, the skies overhead seemed even more ominous than they looked.

Monday’s storm carried warnings for ‘weak tornados’ that would likely not hit the ground, but which could cause substantial damage if they happened to do so.
The Alberta Emergency Alert system issued Alberta tornado warnings on July 5, 12, 23, 24, 28, 30, and 31, for areas ranging from Mountain View County (Olds area) to Camrose, Wetaskiwin, Vermilion, and Beaver County; too close for comfort.
