Valdy punctuates end of Dayarts Concert series with a perfect evening

The Daysarts 2011-12 concert series ended Wednesday, Apr. 4 at the Palace Theatre with a performance from Valdy.

The night started out with a tap performance from a group of young ladies from the Peacock Academy of Dance, dressed as Marilyn Monroe and performing “Diamonds are a Girl’s best friend.”

Daysarts spokesman Ken Eshpeter introduced Valdy after the dancers, who took the stage and said, “I’ve never had an opening act like that! How do I follow seven beautiful girls and the best voice in radio?”

Touted as one of Canada’s most influential songwriters, Valdy performed some of his older hits, starting off with the well-known, “I am not a poor man,” and including his biggest hit song “Play me a Rock and Roll Song” from 1972, as well as a number of songs he’d written more recently, introducing each with the story behind the song.
