At the close of nominations on January 9, Doug Fee was one of seven people who put their names forward for consideration for senatorial selection.

Fee, born in Kingston, Ontario to Ed and Edna Fee, and raised in Killam, is not unfamiliar with government service, having served one term from 1988 to 1993 as the PC Member of Parliament for Red Deer.

Prior to that, Fee served as a Town Councillor in Innisfail, Alberta, where he resides, from 1971 to 1988, holding the office of Mayor from 1977 to 1988.

“I used to get calls from Gordie Hilker on a regular basis when I was Mayor,” said Fee. “He would call to offer advice.”
