Employees at Flint Process Systems in Halkirk from Forestburg, Galahad and Killam showed their support to the Flagstaff Food Bank for Christmas.

They held a small contest leading up to their Christmas party which involved bringing an item for the food bank, then at the end of the party, guessing the correct weight of all donated items to win a prize.

Food and cash donations were brought in, and when all was finished, Travis Mueller guessed the closest weight of all the food that had been donated, and got to choose which food bank would receive the food donation, as well as the $220 that had been collected.

The employees also held a 50/50 draw that night, raising another $200 for the food bank.

The best part, according to Fay Hagel, of Flint, ”was since the Christmas party was held in the Galahad Agriplex, which also hosted a bowling alley, there were two fellows there who challenged each other to a four-frame bowl-off with the loser donating $100 to the food bank.”

According to Hagel, this competition got everyone watching, with many side bets taking place as several people placed wagers on who would win.

When the game was over, the loser (who lost by one pin) donated his $100, but since his competitor was prepared to lose anyhow, he donated his $100, too, and then all the money that was wagered on the two fellows was also donated which brought in another $400 in total for the Food Bank.

“Overall, our small shop raised over $800, which went to three local food banks; Flagstaff, Castor, and Stettler, plus several totes of food!” says Hagel.

“It was pretty amazing to say the least!”
