Daysland By-Election Results are In!

The Town of Daysland held a by-election Monday to replace three of four town council positions that were recently made vacant due to resignation.

Gail Watt (127 votes), Patricia Spencer (123 votes), and Ed Kusalik (110 votes) were elected as the town’s newest councillors for the remainder of the term.

The town recorded a 39 per cent voter turnout, with 219 of a possible 565 participating.

Anne Ekelund (32 votes), Dallas Cannady (39 votes), Brian Simpson (70 votes) and James (Butch) Robertson (109 votes) came up short in their bids for office.

Robertson was particularly note-worthy, having lost to Kusalik by a single vote.

Next up, Daysland will have to hold another nomination day in the new year for nominees to replace the fourth councillor, Tara Mazur, who resigned this month; followed by yet another mid-term by-election.

With the three new councillors elected and in place, Daysland Council will again be able to reach a quorum and conduct business as usual.
